History of Ragu's Web Page

Updated ***JUNE*** 2000

promicon.jpg (2383 bytes) June 2000 - Who would have thought I'd ever be so BUSY?  This seems to be yet another minor update... I added more pictures to the photo gallery, and changed little things like background music, and removed some irrelevant portions of pages to improve load time. The site seems to be doing well on its new URL, but most of the traffic is still being directed to my old URL.
me! November 1999 - A lot can happen in a year... A great girlfriend has come and gone, and I've been out having a life. And as usual, the web page was neglected again.  I added a photo gallery, and fixed a bunch of things that have been bothering me. I must be doing something right, because I've got more than 23,000 hits so far.

WB01345_.gif (616 bytes) January 1999 - FINALLY! It's been a whole year since I've even touched this page. In the mean time, I've accumulated 10,000 more hits and a big list of stuff to do to the site. Right now, I'm giving the whole site a major facelift. The content won't change much, but it'll look and navigate better. When time permits, I plan to slowly add some of the new stuff I've been working on and slowly phase out the original 1996 Ragu stuff.

January 1998 - MAJOR UPDATE! WHEW! I've been waiting to to this for over a year now. I totally redesigned my web page with frames. It was getting so huge that it was confusing to navigate. I used a ticker-tape Java applet to scroll the links to the different sections of the site across the bottom frame. I find that it cuts down on load time and reduces the overall clutter of the site.

November - It's been a LONG time since I last updated this page. So far, I've:
•Removed those pesky Link Exchange Banners
    •Fixed numerous bugs

June - RealVideo is finally here after months of waiting and setbacks! If you haven't already seen the clips, check them out and let me know how you like them. The RealVideo clips are currently for Active X only... It looks better that way. Besides, if you're using Netscape you know it is only a matter of time before you will HAVE to switch to Internet Explorer. Active X Crescendo Player Removed

May - A minor setback... This update was supposed to include the long-awaited RealVideo. I'm sorry for the delay. It'll be here soon. Instead, I removed the LRMS Yearbook due to a request from Lifetouch Studios not to copy their photos. I changed this background so the text is easier to read, added a few more MIDIs, and encoded some new RealAudio songs. I also fixed a lot of little things here and there. Long River Middle School Yearbook Removed

April (Mid-Month)- "More Stuff" It was too soon to change the main feature, so I made a few improvements: There is now a MIDI request form. Maybe it will help organize the requests, and hopefully bring in some more. By the way...That rotating jar of Ragu Pasta Sauce was made with my Quickcam and some Ragu that I bought at the supermarket. :)

April - "Active X and Java" -This update is a giant leap in the construction of the next generation Ragu's Web Page. Although I did a little experimenting in March, most of the new Java and Active X was added in this update. Instead of using an external player for the RealAudio, I put in an embedded Active X player for each song. I also added the Crescendo Live Update player to play midis. There are other little Java Applets here and there. I also split my midi list into two separate lists for midi and karaoke songs. Pesky Internet Audit Counters removed

March - "Long-awaited Update" - My apologies for not updating my page for so long. I've been so busy with other stuff, I didn't have any time for an update. This month's theme is food, hence the food graphics. I added some new RealAudio songs. Coming Soon - RealVideo!

January - "New Year's Edition" - Nothing much different in this update, except for 3 new RealAudio Songs. The main page was updated with New Year graphics to celebrate the arrival of 1997.

December - "Realaudio Christmas Edition" -- December's web page was redesigned with Christmas pictures, icons, and music. The biggest addition though, was REALAUDIO. I recorded some songs with my realaudio encoder, and with the realaudio software, visitors could listen to them in real-time! No downloading the sound clips... just immediate playback. I also added a guestbook. Thanks for all of your responses to the guestbook. Keep sending me your feedback so I can continue to improve my page. Wave Power Co-op & Free Banner Advertisements removed.

November-- "The Digital Postcard" -- Now visitors to my web site can send digital postcards to friends and loved ones via the Internet, a totally free service from Ragu's Web Page. I increased my collection to nearly 4000 midi files available by request. A second Alphaworld page was added with more 16-bit screen captures. I am aware of the problem with the Wave Power Co-op banners. If it is not fixed by the next update, I will have them removed.

October-- "50% faster downloading!" - A free web service called GIF Wizard aided me in reducing my pages download time by nearly 50%! All of my GIFs are about 50% smaller for super-fast downloading without sacrificing any quality! I also added a listing of over 3000 midi files that I have. Due to limited server space, you can't download them here, but if you want some, feel free to email me - ragums@iconn.net Vdo Live Removed

July -- "VDO LIVE" - I added live video to this page, but with little success. Many users could not view my live video greeting due to software/video problems. Since few people could view it, I removed the 4 meg of videos that were just taking up space on the server.

June -- "The Redesign" - I redesigned the page in June. I changed it and added music, tables, more background images, and I separated it into more pages for easier viewing. I didn't have a main feature for last month because it took enough work to redesign the whole page. 3D VRML Removed

May -- "3-D VRML" - If you've seen it, you'll have to agree that it is some of the best stuff on the Internet. If you missed it, SHAME ON YOU! You should reload my page more often. VRML is Virtual Reality Modeling Language. It is similar to the technology that is being used in the latest movies, it's here on the Net, and it's totally free. If you want to see some more VRML samples on this page, e-mail me. I really need some feedback as to what my viewers want on this page or I won't know what you all enjoy. Gif Contest Removed.

April -- "The other people's GIF contest" - Viewers were asked to find the address of some .gifs that were on this page. The person(s) who found the correct internet address that the gifs were on were awarded with a copy of LRMS DOOM through e-mail. MIDI Jukebox Removed

April & March -- "MIDI Jukebox" - Visitors to my page got to listen to many great MIDI songs right here on the web. Art Gallery Removed

March -- "The 3-D art gallery" - 3-D PICTURES ON THE WEB - Any person with a pair of Red/Blue lens 3-D glasses was able to view the spectacular 3-D images in the "More Stuff to Explore" section. Marquee Removed

March -- "The 10-minute scrolling MARQUEE" - A marquee that scrolled across the top of the web page. If you read it from start to finish it took almost 10 minutes to read --- with a PRIZE OFFER at the end.
