Negatives - March 1997 | The Black Eye Galaxy shines at Mag. 9.4 in the constellation Coma Berenices. This spiral galaxy has very fine dust lanes in the arms, and a non-descript central core area, with the famous darkened area dust cloud. In larger scopes this area shows up with veins of dark and luminous areas. This object is similar to M 51 in that it is a good visual location type of object, it's narrow field makes for a smaller photographic object in less then longer focal length instruments. However, this emulsion photographic detriment, also makes for this as a good object for CCD imaging with their typically smaller imaging areas, but sensitive detectors. |
