Negatives - November 1998 | This area is well known for several interesting deep sky objects, each with it's own character, but together, making for a tremendous area for it's contrasting views, objects for study and overall attention from observers of all levels. It is a challenging photographic field for enhancement and balance, and also a limit pushing visual field, usually needing a dark observing site, large aperture, and visual aids, if possible, such as LP filters. The bright red nebula is known as IC434, as is assumed to be illuminated from the bright star Zeta Orionis. The Horsehead is an example of a dark nebula and has a designation of B33. To the left of the field is the Flame Nebula, also designated NGC 2024. |
