#Wing-Commander is an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) channel on the
Beyondirc
IRC network. To hook up to the
IRC, you need an IRC client: that's
the software that makes your connection,
and helps you navigate once you connect.
The
most popular of the IRC Clients is
mIRC.
You can download it for free by clicking
on the mIRC icon below. If you are
using Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000 or
NT then need to download the 32bit
version. If you are using Win3.x then
you need to download the 16bit version.
Once the very simple installation is complete, run mIRC. You
should get a window looking something
like this
Type
in all your details in the appropriate
places and press the "Connect to IRC
Server" button. You should see a whole
bunch of messages flashing on the
screen. IRC servers have a special
service called Nickserv which can
prevent anyone from using your specific
nick, so if you get a message
-NickServ- This nick is owned by someone else. Please
choose another.
-
-NickServ- If this is your nick,
type: /msg NickServ IDENTIFY
-
-NickServ- You have 60 seconds to
comply before I change your nick.
If
this is the message you get, try adding
some numbers to the end of your nick.
For instance if the nickname "Tiger"
is taken, consider calling yourself
"Tiger2000" or "Tiger98."
Now
in the space where it lets you type
things type this:
/join #wing-commander
That will take you directly to the
#Wing-Commander channel. WELCOME!
If you need help from there on please
ask one of the OPS, (they are the
people with an @ in front of their
names). Beware there are certain rules
1.
Please use respectful language and
most importantly...
2. Have fun!
If
you are a Mac user you will have to
go here
and download the Ircle irc client.
Currently, there is not a Macintosh
mIrc client made.
Welcome
to the family of Wing Commander fans
around the world.
If
you have any additional questions
about it, drop me an email and I'll do my best
to bring you in for a safe landing.
